Drivers filmed baking donuts in downtown Miami – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – Drivers in downtown Miami were caught on camera playing donuts over the weekend, with locals saying they were tired of the stunts.
Videos taken in the Northeast Eighth Street and Biscayne Boulevard area captured the stunts next to the FTX Arena.
“I love this neighborhood because it’s in the middle of the action, but maybe it’s a bit too much of the action with that,” said resident Ryan Rea. “I don’t normally mind how loud Miami is because I like the energy. That’s why I moved here, but it’s kinda annoying around 1 to 3 a.m. when I’m trying to sleep. It’s a lot.”
Rea has lived in downtown Miami for four years. He said recently that stunts have become more common, occurring two to three times a month.
“For me it’s less about sound, about burnout,” Rea said. “It’s because someone is going to get hurt eventually.”
“It’s dangerous,” Miami City Police spokesperson Michael Vega said. “It’s dangerous to the person doing it, and it’s dangerous to those around him.”
Miami City Police could be seen in the video showing the intersection and putting an end to the stunts, as those involved disperse.
“It’s a binding offense,” Vega said. “If we capture these people for doing it, they will be arrested for reckless driving. “
Rea, meanwhile, said he hoped the police would step up their deterrence strategies, including having an officer stationed near the intersection overnight.
Police are asking the public to work with them and let them know if they hear of any stunts like the ones seen over the weekend.
“We’re trying to establish a way to get there faster,” Vega said. “Not only that, but to be able to identify and capture the people who are doing it.”
Police said they did not capture the drivers seen in the videos.
If you have any information about these reckless drivers, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember that you can always remain anonymous and you may be eligible for a reward of up to $ 5,000.
