IBA bets on innovation and research in Islamic finance

The IBA Karachi Center of Excellence in Islamic Finance (IBA CEIF) is actively working in the promotion and development of Islamic finance. One of their focus areas is the promotion of innovation and research in the field of Islamic finance, with a focus on sustainable national and global economic development. In this regard, IBA CEIF is organizing the World Islamic Finance Forum (WIFF) 2022 at Movenpick Hotel, Karachi on 30-31 May 2022.

To launch this conference, a press conference was organized by IBA CEIF at IBA City Campus, Karachi attended by Dr. S. Akbar Zaidi – IBA Executive Director, Dr. Ishrat Husain – IBA CEIF President, Mr. Ahmed Ali Siddiqui – Director IBA CEIF, Mr. Irfan Siddiqui – President & CEO – Meezan Bank Limited, Mr. Yousaf Hussain – Chairman & CEO, Dr. Muhammad Imran – Head of Islamic Banking Group – Bank Alfalah Limited, Syed Nayyar Hussain Zaidi – Executive Director – Salaam Takaful Limited, Muhammad Irfan Ahmed – Head of Shariah Compliance – BankIslami Pakistan Limited and Dr Irum Saba – Associate Professor and MS IBF – IBA Program Director.

Dr. Irum Saba gave a keynote address followed by Dr. Zaidi who appreciated the efforts of the IBA CEIF as they play a leading role in integrating academics with industry practice in finance Islamic. Dr. Zaidi mentioned that more than 50 speakers from Malaysia, Qatar, UAE, USA, UK, France, Turkey, Bahrain and Pakistan will speak at the conference.

According to Dr. Ishrat Husain, WIFF 2022 will bring together industry leaders, Sharia scholars, policy makers, academics and students to provide solutions to existing challenges facing the Islamic finance industry. He further referred to the report by Moody’s International Credit Rating Agency which appreciated the efforts of the Islamic finance industry reflecting a growth of 24%.
